blissed out

Pretty sure there are few things on earth as blissed out as a feline snoozing in the 81 degreed January afternoon.

And?  No matter how much fresh salmon I promise, the bugger refuses to swap lives with me for a week so that I may lounge about at home for a week.

sweetness

Ms. Allison Jane joined the world this morning~such a sweet little face!  Cannot wait to meet her.

Very proud Grandpa (we're all guessing that he's getting to hold the actual baby!)

catching up

A happy glancing up as I loaded my car for work one morning.

Finally made it to C-Boys, Austin's Blues venue~fun kitschy mirror.   Was delighted to hear Lazy Lester.

Our weather continues to yo-yo between low teens, pouring rain and then swooping into the high 70s.  Fortunately, Australia Day was warm and sunny for all the cricket players/footie/rugby matches that occurred.  I was happy to sit in the sun and eat pies.

My new place is slowly coming together.

Bogart survived his vet visit trauma and is back to his happy self.

And I've been completely remiss in posting about the Matsiko Children's Choir that came to sing at our school.    Joy personified.

when I am an old woman, I shall wear purple

I do not categorize myself as old, but my left eyeball seems to be aging faster than the rest of me.  Hence, the need for specs.  Went with a kicky purple pair.

pithy

(And all reports of snow/sleet have been highly exaggerated.  Yes, shocking that the media is over-hyped on this as well as other topics.)

charred broccoli is the theme of the weekend

And I mean that in a deliberate and delicious sense!  Found this recipe in the new Food/Wine issue.  Here's their version, but I tweaked mine per usual:

1 cup mayonnaise (I used a couple of tablespoons)
3 TBSP olive oil
2 TBSP fresh lemon juice
1 small garlic clove minced (hahahahahaHA.  More like 7-8 cloves were used.)
salt/pepper
2 lbs of broccoli (I just used 1 lb)

Whisk the first batch of ingredients together and then toss it with the broccoli.  Broil for about 7 minutes.   (I sprinkled Parmesan over the top of mine because it needed to be used.  I also used about 1/2 cup of that divine Trader's garlic aioli.)

Scrumptious.  AND healthy!

it's been a quiet week

Easing back into the routine of school~this was the moon set from my classroom on Tuesday.

Used my sister's new USA pans during break and fell in love with the ease of using them.  Was thrilled to get a gift card to use for my own brownie pan.  (Well, it might be used for other things.)

not quite ready

to leave my beautifully cocooned vacay world to return to harsh reality.

the only wisdom I possess

I will say 'Happy New Year all y'all', even though (as a teacher) I firmly believe that the new year begins in gorgeous crunchy leaves [Sept] and not in this the dull & somewhat chilled and dreary month [January, I'm lookin' at you].

I wish all of you the very best that 2015 can offer.
