it's beginning to look a lot like...

Although it is in the 70s, I just got a belated Christmas gift from one of my prefects.

It's a cunning little package of eating utensils.  I look forward to summer festivals and picnics where I may use them!

My cast did me proud~despite an abysmal performance space and limited rehearsal time in it~they sparkled and danced and made the community come to their feet with joy.

It is hard to top the chocolate nail polish that I had for the Wonka production, but this purple hair extension is bringing joy to my soul.  The cast is sparkling and ready for this~it's been a truly fun group of singers with whom to work.

I shall put duct tape over my mouth to keep my comments on the crew muffled.

Meanwhile, we had a six-minute snow storm this afternoon.  Lots o' fun trying to keep 36 girls quiet in study hall with huge flakes drifting past the windows.

Usually by production week, I am tired of all the music of the show~but there's something so joyful and effervescent about this score that I still am singing it in my head continually.  

Rehearsal was fun today~suddenly it was Real to the students and they're starting to truly sparkle.  We add wigs and gloves tomorrow.

And!  For the first time in many months, I found a penny on the pavement.

Welcome to the 60s

Traci's wig arrived today, so the show can happen now.  Well, if the cast would remember their words for the finale.  There was one point in rehearsal tonight when not a single actor knew the words to the song. But, at least we have a tiara and much, much glitter on stage flats.

And~at the end of rehearsal, they were all petitioning to do yet another musical before the end of the school year.   Bwa-ha-ha-ha.

"the motion of the ocean...."  If you haven't watched/heard Hairspray, I encourage you to do so.  It's just great fun.

We finally got ONE hour on the stage today (remind me to never take a job where sports are the life blood of a community/ethos) and the cast had such fun.

Am enjoying sparkles and glitter and music while it's still allowed under this regime.

power of words

With all the divisive, ugly, and truly damaging rhetoric flying around the globe at present~took the opportunity at last night's Small Community gathering to talk about the power of words.  Then, I taped a blank piece of paper on everyone's back and handed out markers.  They spent several jabbering moments running around the room and writing compliments on each other's backs.  

I've done this exercise before~there's something about the pseudo-anonymity that works for honest kind words to just pour out. 

We spent the rest of the time playing Scrabble and Bookopoly and most of them talked about how worried they are about getting back into the US at the end of Spring Break.

While I've had some wild conversations with students~this topic is a new and scary one.

But, for this one night~we ate Valentine candy and had shrieking fun over board games with our international friends/classmates.

Mango sorbet to polish off the delish tofu we had for Chinese New Year.  A gorgeous weekend on all levels.
