feelin' saucy

This morning's theme was the colours of the Italian flag~red, white, and green.

The girls are so proud of what they're doing and amazed at how easy it is to create delicious food out of basically three ingredients.

They're also forced to endure MY playlist while cooking~Kanye just doesn't cut it in my home.

We ended up with amazing sauces~a very kicky marinara, a perfectly peppery Alfredo, and some pesto so fresh it just about walked around one's plate.

These miniature dishes from Anthropologie are the perfect size for this kind of class and tastings.

I think Grandma Dunston would be quite happy that happy girls are using her flatware.

Some delish bread with garlic cloves baked directly in it.  And no, we aren't tackling yeast breads this term.  This afternoon brings a guest cook and casseroles!  Buon appetit indeed.

Souper fun

Our nation may be disintegrating and imploding, but for today?  Eleven girls now know how to make three kinds of soup from scratch.

We opened all the windows to enjoy the weirdly warm weather, played French cafe music, and laughed a lot.   The only error was when I walked away after telling a couple of them to "coat the bottom of the pan with the rosemary oil."  When I returned, they had enough oil to make french fries...

Surprisingly (to me), the broccoli soup was the first one gone, with the potato coming in second.  As there are some 'shroom haters in the group, that is the only one left.

Good to the dredges.  Stay tuned for sauces and casseroles tomorrow.

cooking, joy of

Quarter found on yesterday's walk~where I spent much of the time mulling over my upcoming two week class on cooking.  11 teenaged cooks will be in my care~stay tuned for riotous times in the kitchen.   (I set off the fire alarms in the dorm yesterday just by pre-heating my oven.  We're going to be good friends with the fire department by the end of this course.)

What the motto of every potluck should be!

if winter comes

Teeny daffs showed up this week and I realized that the daylight is lingering later.  I follow a local amatuer meterologist and he's quite offended that we didn't really have winter this year.  There's been plenty of cold and grey and I, for one, am ready for sunnier days.

better late than something

Finally painted my Year of the Rooster~while the musical was great fun, I am SO glad to have my afternoons and evenings back.
