for the goodness in our lives

We lit a menorah in Chapel this morning and as I type this evening, several friends and colleagues are lighting theirs at home and singing ancient blessings of miracles and goodness in our lives.

Although, in my bit of the world, it feels as though there is a bit less sparkle in the world as I learned that a long-time family friend/mentor/colleague (and shall we add fabulous cook and party giver?) passed away this morning.  His is a life and an ending to emulate.  Rest in peace, Robert Tan.

  1. Was his hair still black, last you saw him? I think he was covering up gray when I was in the fifth grade. It amazes me that he was so unchanging ("Oh yo-yo!"), so completely amusing and so thoroughly competent without being a towering, intimidating horror. You know? Some musicians can't be that awesome without being scary, but he was ever warm and witty and lovely.

Indeed. An ending to emulate, and a life to celebrate.

    1. He never aged. But then, his mother didn't really either.

He had a great balance of excellence and good temper~which everyone who has led or sat through a rehearsal of any kind knows is difficult to pull off.

  2. Bob Tan passed away? He was an icon for so many although I didn't know him. Sorry to hear that.

    1. Yes, he had a huge concert on Monday night and went to sleep. A good way to go. He will be deeply missed by our family and the community at large.
