Ah, yes, one of the OTHER reasons why I quite teaching... 'course, being a writer pays no better - it's actually worse - but, I guess there's fewer people requiring things of me.
Well, this year has been an utter/sheer waste of my time. All I can say is at least I have benefits. Which I probably wouldn't have needed if my immune system weren't exposed to toxic molds in the classroom.
You are right! It is unbelieveable that teachers are near the bottom of most pay scales yet are so vital to society.
