indeed

All while eating peanuts and wheat and dairy and red food colouring...

  1. Ironic, since I just read a piece about how a kid was bullied by having a bigger kid run over his big wheel and pin him on the sidewalk.

And, sadly(?), my mother both made us wear helmets and elbow pads AND seat belts, long before it was the legal requirement. The "in the good old days we didn't have to" nostalgia is all very well, but it was never my life, and I doubt it was as common as people say. Surely my parents were not the only ones who chose to err on the side over-cautious on behalf of their children. They were really low-key, so I KNOW someone else had it worse (? better?).

    1. No helmets, no padding & I seem to remember actual hammer & nails that we got to use in building forts.

  2. AND we nursed our babies in our laps while riding in a car with toddlers NOT in PC car seats - and miraculously our kids survived. No helmets or padding for me and brother in Canada in the 40s/early 50s. And breastfeeding an infant without having to stop the car was so handy!
