cracks of light

In addition to the large-scale disasters that occurred this week, on our campus, we had our own sadness and tragedy-- two elementary students lost their father.  So pleased to see a group of the 6th grade galvanize their grade and the 4th graders in making sympathy cards for their classmates.  They asked to use my classroom during lunch to assemble gift baskets.

Their finished product.  It's quiet, but it's a breath-taking thing to watch their unprompted caring/compassion and the way they're wading into grief with their friends.

    1. It truly is. Had to laugh a bit at the vast amount of sugar that was collected.

  2. Isn't it lovely to think they've watched their parents put together baskets enough times to know the when/how to do it themselves? It means that somewhere behind the wealth and ostentation, the community has a core, even when you can't see it.

    1. It was good to watch the process--they were given free reign to dig through my prize/reward drawers for ribbons and such. And it was nice to see some of the boys involved as well.
