gather ye something blooming, while ye may

Today's blooms.

As we're studying the Renaissance in Music History right now and we're careening towards graduation (and! I just realized that my THIRTIETH high school reunion is April next), Herrick's ancient words are most appropriate:

Gather ye rosebuds while ye may,
Old Time is still a-flying;
And this same flower that smiles today,
Tomorrow will be dying.

And for those readers who don't comment~if you would send me an email if you know the rest of the song that has the lyrics "sweet silver bells".  It's been running through my head today and I don't know all the words.  When I google it, I just get that vile Christmas song (Carol of the Bells, if you must know).  I seem to remember that it was a canon.  It would be fun to use this spring.

  1. I think it's "White coral bells upon a slender stalk. Lilies of the valley line my garden walk....". You can find it here: http://folksongcollector.com/white4coral.html. I was surprised to find that they have the word "fairies." I learned it with the words, "That will only happen when the angels sing."
