This may seem an odd post for a blog about finding joys~but am saddened today to find out that the designer Kate Spade committed suicide this morning.
While I've yet to afford one of her whimsical purses/totes, I do sleep on shimmery polka-dotted sheets of her design. While in grad school, I used to walk past her shop in Princeton just for the beauty displayed in the windows~and for the hope that someday I would be graduated/employed and carry one of these bags.
The quote in the title is one of hers~it is too bad she didn't realize how much she spread sparkle on a global level.
Depression is a liar.
ReplyDeleteShe probably heard that of herself and was able to believe it once, but not anymore, poor woman. I have a Kate Spade dish towel my friend Sarah got me as a joke - as the only Spade thing we'd be ever able to afford - and now that's a fact, as even her goods on ThredUp will be through the roof.
There must be a better way to remember someone who brought so many quirky beauty - maybe we can all find a better way to pay it forward.
I feel a bit badly that that was one of my first reactions~"Now I'll never be able to afford a bag of hers".
DeleteSomewhere, in my stored boxes, I have champagne flutes of hers~when I unpack, will use them to toast all manner of joyous events.
